Our programs |

Since it was founded in July 2004, Solthis has begun five technical support programs in Africa and the Indian Ocean.
Mali - particularly the Ségou region - was chosen as the site for the Solthis' first technical support program in December 2003. Since the beginning, our aim in Mali has been to provide universal access to ARV and high quality treatment for patients with HIV/AIDS in the Ségou region, by supporting local participants in both public and private structures.
At the end of 2007, Solthis was providing support to 11 ARV prescription sites and nearly 325 centers for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission.
Nearly 200 healthcare professionals have been trained in the management and follow up of people living with HIV/AIDS.
Within the framework of the Malian Initiative for Access to ARV (IMAARV), a total of 1568 patients have begun ARV treatment, including nearly 50 children in the Ségou region.
Solthis' specific goal for 2008 is autonomous HIV/AIDS management in the region, and consolidation and decentralization of management in the Ble, Niono and Bla circles surrounding the city of Ségou.
Solthis has been active in Niger since October 2005. Our goal has been to improve treatment conditions for patients living with HIV/AIDS and to extend treatment coverage by helping decentralize access to treatment. Solthis provides support in Niamey, where all medical and institutional activities are coordinated, as well as in Zinder where a second team is based.
Its medical team participates in temporary missions in Maradi, Tahoua, Dosso, Galmi, Diffa, Tera.
With more than 1500 patients being followed, including 80 children receiving ARVs at the end of 2007, and nearly 100 physicians trained in the prescription of ARVs, Niger is facing new challenges in patient management.
To support the Nigerien Initiative for Access to ARVs (INAARV) in this transitional period, Solthis' goal in 2008 is to help consolidate treatment networks in the capital and regionally for more extensive treatment coverage and to better meet needs.
Since May 2006, Solthis' goal in Madagascar has been to reduce the impact of HIV/AIDS, to help gain a better understanding of the epidemiological situation, and to anticipate its progression, given the numerous existing risk factors. This has also meant taking all possible measures to maintain the low prevalence rate.
For this, Solthis has developed a model of managing in patients with HIV in the Northern Province (Diana and Sava regions) using a public health approach to the problem.
At the end of 2007, nearly 200 HIV/AIDS patients, including nearly 50 who are receiving antiretroviral treatment, were being followed in the 50 centers supported by Solthis in the Northern regions (Diana and Sava).
Nearly 300 healthcare professionals (prescribing and non-prescribing physicians, laboratory technicians, paramedics) have been trained in HIV/AIDS management.
In agreement with the national authorities, centers in two new regional capitals, Antananarivo and Morondava, will receive technical support from Solthis in 2008.
The kick off of the program in Guinea is a major priority for Solthis in 2008. Our goal is to provide technical support to approximately 30 sites for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission, for an estimated active patient list of 2500 patients, according to national data.
Solthis will first provide support at centers in Conakry and will begin working in the Boké region by the summer of 2008.
A new Solthis program has been operating in Burundi for a few months since June 2009. The specific goal of this program is to improve access to high quality, decentralised, ongoing treatment for HIV seropositive patients by the capacity building activities for healthcare system and local medical teams in the regions of N'Gozi and Gitega. The coordination team is based in Bujumbura.
After providing three years
of support in the Atacora-Donaga region (North Benin),
in accordance with the duration agreed upon with the national authorities, Sothis stopped its activities in this area
in December 2007.
As a result of SOLTHIS'
support of two treatment centers: the Natitingou and Tanguieta hospitals, more than 400 patients, including 50
children have received high quality medical treatment, including appropriate
antiretroviral treatment.
After an evaluation phase,
a support project in another region of the country is now under study, and
Solthis will probably begin work again in Benin in 2009.
