The first One Health project implemented by Solthis, THIELLAL came to an end in June 2024, after three years of implementation with AVSF as the lead and Casades in Senegal..
Funded by the Agence Française de Developpement (AFD), Thiellal aimed to create a favorable environment for community action to address the determinants of the unique health of populations, animals, and the environment, with a view to an agroecological transition and better health in the Vélingara region. It specifically sought to strengthen the capacities of communities and local stakeholders in the areas of human, animal, and environmental health..
Among the results achieved during these 3 years of action, notable achievements include:
- Participation in 6 diagnoses on various issues, including three under the direction of Solthis, enabling a better understanding of the issues linked to the use of chemical products and the determinants of unique health.
- Revitalization of multi-stakeholder consultation frameworks at various levels (community, municipal, departmental), promoting participation and equitable representation.
- Training of over 100 professional and community players, enabling them to implement endogenous actions to protect the health of populations and the environment.
- Raised awareness among farmers, stockbreeders and consumers of the risks associated with the use of chemical products, with 13,389 people reached by the issues of antimicrobial resistance, pesticide use and agroecology.
- Increase in medical prescriptions of anti-infectives in line with national guidelines (up to 58.9%), reflecting improved prescribing practices.
This innovative project has enabled us to better understand the challenges and importance of a “One Health” approach, and has confirmed Solthis’ commitment to pursuing this dynamic.
