SIERRA LEONEADVOCACY FOR FAIR ACCESS TO QUALTITY HEALTH CARESTRENGTHENING SYSTEMS AND HEALTH SERVICES
On 21st July 2019 in Sierra Leone, Solthis Sierra Leone launched the steering committee dedicated to support the implementation and enhance ownership for sustainability of the project Empower-phase II to improve the quality of HIV care in Sierra Leone.
The committee gathers key stakeholders in fighting against HIV in Sierra Leone : National AIDS Secretariat (NAS), National AIDS Control Programme (NACP), National Leprosy and TB Control Programme (NTLP), UNAIDS, UNICEF, Network of HIV Positives in Sierra Leone (NETHIPS) who will meet on quarterly basis to discuss the implementation and ownership for sustainability.
Among discussed points, the need to onboard more representatives of beneficiaries – Health workers (the District Medical Officers) and People living with HIV was raised. Indeed, the Empower II project aims to reinforce the capacities of People living with HIV to exercise their rights to health, however, with rights also come the responsibilities, that have to be fulfilled in order to benefit from quality care resulting in improvement of quality of life.
Furthermore, the National Aids Secretariat (NAS) emphasised the need to continue reinforcing the visibility of NETHIPS and strengthening its involvement in advocacy for Key and Priority Populations' issues in Sierra Leone.
