Solthis Therapeutic Solidarity and Initiatives for Health

Health is a right
Having access to it is vital

Multiannual Partnership Agreement (MPA): Contributing to the strengthening of public and community health systems and services, and to the empowerment of individuals and organisations.

Context :

Despite historic progress over the last years, West Africa is one of the most fragile regions in the world when it comes to social and health indicators, particularly when it comes to gender inequalities. This worrying situation is due to an accumulation of complex factors: multiple chronic crises (political, climatic, epidemic) that the region is going through, all of which contribute to making health systems more fragile, as well as a set of socio-cultural factors that make certain categories of the population particularly vulnerable.

Against this backdrop, strengthening healthcare systems and empowering communities would appear to be essential to fostering the resilience of populations and equitable access to quality healthcare, and thus contributing to sustainable improvements in people’s health.

General objective :

The programme aims to strengthen public and community health services and systems in the target countries in order to increase their resilience, make them more accountable to users and encourage the deployment of user-centred services. It is therefore committed to strengthening human resources in health and empowering users, particularly women, young people and people living in vulnerable situations.

It also responds to global health issues by exploring and implementing new themes such as hepatitis B and One Health, which are key for the sub-region and in the global context of development aid.

Finally, the programme includes a cross-cutting theme aimed at strengthening Solthis’ intervention model and ensuring its long-term viability, so that it can continue to meet the needs and priority demands of West African countries.

Expected results:

  • More efficient, accountable and user-centred healthcare services.
  • Increased empowerment of communities and partner civil society organisations.
  • Improved national and international health policies.
  • Consolidation and sustainability of the Solthis intervention model.
